Destination Location: Twizel

Twizel is the Mackenzie Region’s largest town and features many excellent cafés, bars, restaurants, and shops. There are epic views of mountains in all directions and the town is close to five lakes – handy for boating, fishing and swimming.

By night it is a stargazer’s delight as Twizel is located in the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve. You can cycle some of the world-famous Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail with several day trips near town.

Twizel is just a 45-minute drive to either Aoraki/Mount Cook or Lake Tekapo – making it a perfect place to base yourself as you explore the area.

Most plants are grown from cuttings/seeds taken on-site and will have survived at least one winter before sale. There is extensive use of recycled pots, root trainers and polystyrene boxes. The Vetlife Twizel clinic includes a large open showroom, a consultation room, large surgery and quiet rest and recovery room. They provide services such as vaccinating, worming, microchipping, spaying and neutering, general health checks and basic diagnostics and medicine for the animals of the Mackenzie Region. Additional services and cases which require extra care are completed at nearby Vetlife clinics.

Twizel Medical Centre

Twizel Medical Centre is one of the most remote medical centres in NZ. They offer 24/7 after-hours and emergency on-call services as well as providing a general medical practice for the community Mon – Friday each week. Visitors and casual patients are welcome, they are open for appointments between 9am – 5pm each day. They have a GP and Nurse Practitioner (NP) who are available to see patients by appointment, please phone for a time if you need to be seen. They also offer med-lab services each morning and prescriptions can be collected from the local pharmacy a few minutes away.
