Glacier Hike

Glacier Hike

The Mackenzie Region is home to New Zealand’s longest glacier. The impressive Haupapa/Tasman Glacier is forever changing, with new ice caves and formations appearing and disappearing all the time.

It contains nearly one-third of all glacier ice in New Zealand. This magnificent glacier is the largest of several in the region, with a depth of over 600m. Seeing the ever-changing face of the glacier is a ‘once in a lifetime’ experience.

There are many different ways to see this spectacular glacier. A glacier heli-hike is the perfect way to experience it – and you don’t need to be a mountaineer. You’ll take a stunning flight above Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park and land on the glacier. From there, your guide will take you a short trek as you explore and learn about the phenomenal ice caves and glacial features. It really is a bucket-list experience – and nothing beats being up there next to Aoraki!

A glacier hike – just one reason why you should visit the Legendary Mackenzie!
