Astrophotography

The Mackenzie Region is a stargazer’s dream destination as it’s the world’s largest gold-certified dark sky reserve. This makes it an ideal location for astrophotography. People come from all over the world to photograph our stunning landscapes with the Milky Way as a backdrop.

While all the seasons are great for capturing the stars, the winter months are the best for astrophotography. The nights are much longer, darker and clearer during these months, making it the ideal conditions to get the perfect shot of the Milky Way.

If you’re after some guidance with your photography skills, the Mackenzie has a number of great astrophotographers who host guided tours and workshops all over the region. They will show you all you need to know to get your own award-winning shot of the majestic night sky – just make sure you pack some warm clothes!
